Alexander Woods

Alexander Woods is a pianist and music teacher living in the Twin Cities, MN. A versatile and collaborative musician, his passions include art song, instrumental & chamber works, choral music, contemporary piano repertoire, and a variety of jazz and popular styles. He strives to maintain an innovative perspective in his performances, seeking out new and old works from diverse genres and composers.

Woods is a Lecturer of Piano at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he teaches class piano, applied lessons, and an honors colloquium exploring music and gender. He also plays at Central Presbyterian Church (St. Paul, MN) and Borromeo Music Festival (Altdorf, Switzerland). As a freelance pianist and vocal coach, he has worked at the University of Minnesota, Gustavus Adolphus College, and for various competitions, churches, and choral ensembles in the Greater Twin Cities.

Active as a recording artist and performer, some of Woods's current projects include collaborations with flutist Tim Lane (Skyline Publications, Paper Route Press), a collection of contemporary solo piano works (CRS Inc.), a series of genre-crossing recitals with soprano Janani Sridhar, the First Fridays faculty concerts at UW-Eau Claire, and regular performances with the Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet.

Woods completed his master's degree in Collaborative Piano at the University of Minnesota, and bachelor's degrees in Music and Religious Studies at Pomona College. His primary teachers include Timothy Lovelace, Lydia Artymiw, Genevieve Lee, and Ming Tsu. www.alexanderwoodspiano.com
