Biography: Lauren Urquhart is an American soprano based in Vienna, Austria. She joined the ensemble of the Volksoper Wien in 2019 as one of its youngest members in history. Already in her first season, she was invited to sing the lead female role in the European premiere of “Schoenberg in Hollywood,” which was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since moving to Europe in 2018, Lauren has sung guest contracts with the Staatstheater Nürnberg, the Theater Magdeburg, the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, and Festival Lyrique de Belle-île-en-Mer.

Her notable roles include Susanna in “Le Nozze di Figaro,” Zerlina in “Don Giovanni” (cancelled due to Covid-19), Pamina and Papagena in “Die Zauberflöte,” Liesel in “The Sound of Music,” and Beth in “Little Women.”

Lauren sang the lead role of Ann Darrow in the world premiere of the opera “The True Story of King Kong” in Magdeburg, die Nachtigall in “Die Vögel” in Erl, as well as many other pieces by living composers. She will make several role debuts next season at the Volksoper, including Gretel in “Hänsel und Gretel” and Adele in “Die Fledermaus.”

Lauren completed her BM in Vocal Performance at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University in 2018.

Source Moment: I loved that Source put the singers and pianists on the same level of importance. So many programs out there will “use” pianists to accompany the singers, who are given more instruction. Source really put the focus on collaboration, made it clear that we were a team of equal footing, and made sure everyone had ample opportunity to learn.
