Jonathan Tauscheck grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he began his formal music training at MacPhail Center. He holds Piano Performance degrees from the University of Minnesota (BM, MM) and the University of Iowa (DMA). He served as a Staff Accompanist, and taught Applied and Class Piano courses at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA. He currently holds a teaching position at MacPhail Center and serves as assistant music director at St.
James AME Church in Minneapolis. He has many freelance obligations as a performer and composer, most recently at Windows restaurant of the IDS center.
His first album of original piano works was awarded a stipend by MNSpin, an online streaming platform through Hennepin County that promotes local artists. He composed a second album consisting of original songs that featured local artists Alexandra Sapan (soprano), Victoria Vargas (mezzo-soprano), and David Walton (tenor). Last spring, he was awarded 3rd place at SongSLAM, a local competition for emerging composers. His third album will be released in September of this year.
